Artist’s Bio
I grew up in northern Kentucky and received my BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, with an emphasis in printmaking and drawing. After several years of studio practice and adjunct teaching, I earned an MFA in printmaking from the University of Cincinnati. In 1995, I moved to Spokane, Washington, to join the art faculty at Gonzaga University, where I directed the printmaking program until retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2020.
My work has been recognized through numerous awards, honors, and grants, including a Kentucky Foundation for Women Grant in 1990, Artist Trust GAP Grants in 1997 and 2000, and an Artist Trust Fellowship Grant in 2000. In 2001, I received Gonzaga University’s Scholar of the Year Award and I was the Kreielsheimer Professorship of Art from 2016 through 2019. In 2008, I was appointed Honorary Visiting Professor of Printmaking at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, China, where I taught and exhibited my work. I returned to China in 2012 to teach, exhibit, and collaborate on woodcut prints with Zhang Guanghui, chair of the Hubei printmaking program. In 2023, I received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rocky Mountain Print Alliance.
My prints have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions in China, Italy, India, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, South Korea, New Zealand, Finland, Mexico, Spain, and Ukraine.
